ICT EDUCATION CASE STUDY-ASPBAE RESEARCH ON INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY (BANGLADESH)

The research question of the case study is how to become a learning society and to ensure that itscitizens are equipped with the knowledge, skills and qualifications on information and communication technology (ICT) they will need in the next century, in the region of Bangladesh.


The purpose of the study includes three aspects. 1. Participation in the information society; 2. How ICT impacts on access, cost effectiveness and quality of education; 3. The way that ICT changes the education process.


The target group of the case study refers to all kinds of individuals, including children, adult females, and males. The research is taken by selecting a certain amount as sample and collecting the data in various ways, e.g. survey, observation, interview, etc. Recommendations are presented after the research. Mainly, the research recommends that facilities should be built to promote ICT education and computer-aided education in all levels. Another important conclusion is that teachers are the most vital resource in promoting modernization and higher standards, thus their performances and treatments are critical to ICT education system in the region of Bangladesh. Afterward, the study provides some suggestions toward the improvement of ICT infrastructure in Bangladesh.

Summary of the case study

This case study is conducted at the National Association of Investors Corporation (NAIC) Investors fair held in New York in October 1999. The objective is to determine the effect of electronic resources and the internet upon the way individual investor acquire information.

The researcher first initiated the expectation on the answer to 3 questions:

1. What are the information needs of today's individual investor?

2. What information sources are used by individual investor to meet those needs?

3. In what format is the information being obtained?

The researcher then reviews previous and related field research. Those include the findings of Atkinson, Baldwin, Kuhlthau, Chang and Munroe to see whether there are any new findings.Data is collect through sending questionnaire to the member of NAIC, which is the largest association of investment clubs and individual investor in US. Totally 337 questionnaire were distributed and returned of 99, and 96 of them are suitable for processing. Responses were code and analyzed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software.

This case study found that investor makes significant use of print resources, especially narrative print materials such as newspaper and magazine rather that internet. Also internet is used as a supplement to other resources. The result showing a hit that internet become more popular in the future and it should educating the user more about internet.
